Where can my dog travel on the bus in Denmark?
Denmark has one national rulebook for every bus, train, metro and light rail: a dog that isn’t in a bag rides on a lead for a child fare, one per customer, off the seats — and no muzzle, anywhere. The differences are the exceptions each authority adds, and they’re the story.
Each authority page links the official or primary source it rests on and its recorded check date. The national rules set the floor; the exceptions — Aarhus city buses, Copenhagen and Aalborg rush hours — are per authority and listed on each page. Recognised assistance dogs are exempt from these pet restrictions. Each page says what that network asks for — a card, a jacket, sometimes a muzzle.
What this changes
The rule is national.
The exceptions are local.
- Buy the dog a child ticket — in the app, on your Rejsekort, or from the driver.
- Check the rush-hour windows before an Aarhus, Aalborg or inner-Copenhagen bus.
- Book the dog a floor space on InterCity and InterCityLyn.
- Recheck every transport rule a fortnight before you travel.
