Can my dog travel on EMT Palma buses in Palma de Mallorca?

Yes — if you meet every condition.
What this means for you: Palma is easy: every EMT bus takes a big dog on a lead and muzzle for 30 cents, and the SFM trains and metro take it muzzled in the last carriage. Beyond Palma, the TIB interurban buses take pets only in a carrier (since 7 June 2026), so the rest of the island is train where the line goes, and a taxi or a walk where it doesn’t. The Sóller train is a separate rule — check it.

What EMT Palma buses actually say.
- Who gets on
- Any dog, on a lead and wearing an approved muzzle — or in an approved carrier — on every line of the network, since 17 January 2022. Board by the front door and stand on the middle or rear platform.
- Who doesn’t
- A dog without an approved muzzle and lead; the driver can also refuse a dog that would seriously disturb passengers, or when there’s no room.
- How much
- EUR 0.30 dog fare; small pets in a carrier free
- Where they ride
- Middle or rear platform, on the lead. Never on a seat — the dog or the carrier.
- Never, whatever the size
- Nothing by size.

The bus is one rule; each metro, tram and train operator in the city is another. 1 of the 2 networks below take a big dog — muzzled, on a short lead, and usually outside rush hours.
Where a big dog rides — muzzled, on a short lead
There is one network where the idea is the same: lead, off the seats, and you clean up. Muzzles and fares vary, so read the row.
One microchipped dog per person, on a lead of no more than 0.5 m and muzzled throughout SFM premises, in the last carriage; a dog outside a carrier needs a single ticket; admission can be limited when crowded.
Where it’s carrier only
One network. A dog that fits in a closed bag or basket on your lap rides. A dog on a lead doesn’t, however calm.
Since 7 June 2026: dogs, cats, ferrets and small birds ride only inside a carrier, one per person, on your lap or at your feet, never on a seat. Exotic animals refused. Assistance dogs exempt with their registration card.
