Can my dog travel on Cars Région coaches in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes?

Yes — if you meet every condition.
What this means for you: The regional coach is on. Bring a muzzle, a lead and something to clip the dog to, and buses between towns work here. Once you’re in Lyon, Grenoble, Saint-Étienne, Annecy, Vienne or Annemasse, the city bus takes dogs too — muzzled. Clermont-Ferrand, Chambéry and Valence are carrier only.

- Who gets on
- Any dog — muzzled, on a lead, and clipped to a fixed point in the coach for the whole ride. Small animals in a basket ride free.
- Who doesn’t
- A dog without a muzzle or a lead. Category 1 and 2 dogs. Exotic animals (spiders, snakes) are banned outright.
- How much
- The regional FAQ doesn’t say. Savoie’s own regulation asks for a reduced-price ticket for the dog — buy one to be safe.
- Where they ride
- On the floor, clipped to a fixed point. Never on a seat.
- Never, whatever the size
- Category 1 and 2 dogs, and anything the driver judges a nuisance or a danger to other passengers.

- Assistance dogs
- Guide dogs in their special harness and assistance dogs ride free, and don’t need a muzzle.
City buses are a different story (sometimes)

Regional coaches are one rule; the buses inside each town are another, set by the town’s own operator, and I read each one in the French. 6 of the 9 networks I could verify take a big dog on a lead and muzzle.
Where a big dog rides the city bus — on a lead and muzzled
There are six networks where the idea is the same: lead, off the seats, and you clean up. Muzzles and fares vary, so read the row.
Dogs over 6 kg ride on a lead and muzzled with a free “ticket Waf” — an attestation tied to the dog’s chip number, from boutique.tcl.fr or an agency. Get it before you travel; it counts as the dog’s ticket at a check. Small animals in a closed bag or basket ride free.
“Your dog is tolerated, muzzled and on a lead.” That’s the whole rule — nothing on fares or size.

Dogs on a lead and muzzled are accepted “depending on how full the bus is”. Small animals shut in a basket or cage ride too. Attack dogs are banned.

Bigger dogs ride on a lead and muzzled with a ticket of their own. Small dogs in a basket on your lap ride free.
Where it’s carrier only
Three networks. A dog that fits in a closed bag or basket on your lap rides. A dog on a lead doesn’t, however calm.
Animals aren’t admitted, except small dogs and cats shut in a basket, and guide or assistance dogs. Emotional-support dogs are named as not accepted.
No animals except assistance dogs and animals in a basket — it’s a pictogram on the 2025 fare guide. Small dogs only, and only in a basket, on the mountain lines too.
Only pets that fit in a basket on your lap. Guide dogs excepted.
